Peleg Brown letters, 1813, 1814, to Coddington Billings, New London, Conn.

On 13 October 1813, Brown related how he and five other vessels avoided the British fleet and made it safely to Saybrook, Connecticut. Also includes an account of cargo belonging to the Sloop Sailer of Providence, Rhode Island, that was cast away at Watch Hill, Captain Brown in command. They were able to save some of the cargo. In the 1814 letter, Brown gave his reaction to the British attack on Stonington, Connecticut, and his pride at the town's ability to repel the attack. He also mentioned forces in New York State heading to Buffalo and Lake Erie.
